Why did we choose Ecuador? and why this area?

  • Great climate: The area offers a comfortable tropical climate with daytime temperatures between 24-32°C and nighttime temperatures between 15-20°C. There’s rain but there is also a fair amount of sunshine which is ideal for growing a wide range of tropical fruits.
  • Great nature: we have natural waterfalls and streams on (nearly) every property, the plants grow very quickly in the ecuatorial sun and the amount of rain to keep them satiated and thriving.
  • Low Crime Rate: Southeast Ecuador has very low violent crime, primarily limited to petty theft, making it a safe place to live.
  • Welcoming Local Culture: The local population is friendly toward foreigners, especially those who make an effort to learn Spanish. Foreigners can easily obtain residency and purchase land without significant legal hurdles.
  • Affordable Land Prices: Land in this region is much cheaper compared to other parts of Ecuador and neighboring countries. Prices range from $500 to $5,000 per hectare, depending on location and other factors.
  • Low Risk of Tropical Diseases: There is a low incidence of parasitic diseases like malaria and yellow fever. Mosquito-borne illnesses like chikungunya and dengue are rare due to the area’s low mosquito population.
  • High-Quality Soil: The soil in Southeast Ecuador is generally fertile and not heavily degraded by industrial farming. Some areas may have slightly acidic soil, but this can be easily corrected through permaculture methods.
  • Diverse Elevation Options: The region offers a variety of elevation levels, from 760 meters to over 1,500 meters, allowing for a range of microclimates to suit different preferences.
  • Proximity to Major Airports: The area is relatively easy to access from the U.S. and Europe, with affordable flights and a reasonable travel distance from the nearest airport in Cuenca.
  • Established Raw Vegan Communities: The region has growing raw vegan communities, providing access to rare fruit varieties and like-minded individuals.
  • Good Fruit Availability: Markets in the region offer a wide variety of high-quality tropical fruits, including mangoes, papayas, and bananas.
